By far the most bittersweet part of this year’s Star Wars Celebration is the absence of Carrie Fisher; it just doesn’t feel the same without General Leia. But in her place, daughter Billie Lourd took to the stage (dressed in white—we’re not crying, you’re crying) to introduce a moving tribute to the late actress and writer. A moving tribute set, appropriately enough, to “Rebel Rebel.”
“My mom used to say she never knew where Princess Leia ended and Carrie Fisher began,” Lourd said. The video below mixes Leia and Carrie almost interchangeably, from goofing around on the set of the original movies and dancing with Daisy Ridley behind the scenes of The Force Awakens to reciting her famous monologue ending with “Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope.” We also get a brief glimpse of Leia in The Last Jedi, a reminder that we get a little more time with her come Episode IX.
And then they followed the video with Princess Leia’s theme, and we were all wrecked again.
